CoolKicks Owner Arrested as LAPD Seizes $500,000 in Alleged Stolen Nike Goods

Investigators call it a multi-agency cargo-theft case with more arrests expected.

Overview

  • Police executed an Oct. 2 search warrant at a Santa Monica warehouse on the 1700 block of Stewart Street while owner Adeel Shams was livestreaming on WhatNot.
  • Shams, 34, was booked on a felony charge of receiving known stolen property over $950, according to the LAPD.
  • Detectives say they recovered more than 2,100 unreleased Nike sneakers and 150 cartons of Nike apparel valued at roughly $500,000.
  • The operation involved the LAPD Commercial Crimes/Cargo Theft Unit alongside Union Pacific Railroad Police, Los Angeles Port Police, Los Angeles World Airport Police, and the county district attorney’s office.
  • Shams was released on his own recognizance on Oct. 3 and is due in Los Angeles Superior Court on Oct. 23, while CoolKicks asserts it purchased the goods in good faith and notes police have not alleged any counterfeiting.
