Overview
- Jason Budrow, a convicted murderer, has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to murder Paul Flores, the convicted killer of college student Kristin Smart, in a prison attack.
- Budrow is accused of slashing Flores' neck with a makeshift weapon in the prison yard of Pleasant Valley State Prison in California on August 23, 2023.
- Flores, who was serving a 25-year-to-life sentence for the murder of Smart in 1996, was hospitalized for two days following the attack before returning to prison.
- Budrow is already serving two life sentences without parole for strangling his girlfriend in 2010 and his cellmate, serial killer Roger Reece Kibbe, in 2021.
- If convicted of the new charges, Budrow could face an additional sentence of 27 years to life in prison.
