Convicted Killer of North Dakota Student Moved Off Death Row

  • Alfonso Rodriguez, who was convicted of kidnapping, raping, and killing 22-year-old Dru Sjodin, has been moved from death row in Indiana to a federal prison in Florida.
  • Rodriguez's death sentence was overturned in September 2021 due to constitutional rights violations during his trial.
  • Federal prosecutors announced in March that they would not seek the death penalty again, and Rodriguez's sentence was changed to life without parole.
  • Sjodin was abducted from a mall parking lot in Grand Forks, North Dakota, in 2003 and her body was found in Crookston, Minnesota.
  • Rodriguez is now serving his life sentence at Coleman II, a high-security federal prison in Sumterville, Florida.
