Overview
- Hemet officers stopped Marshal Goodnight on July 22 after he activated emergency lights and committed multiple vehicle code violations on a motorcycle labeled “Traffic” and “Public Safety.”
- Goodnight was dressed in a uniform nearly identical to local law enforcement, complete with badges reading “traffic control,” a sheriff’s notepad and a duty belt with what appeared to be a Glock-style pistol.
- A search uncovered two working Tasers, an ASP baton, pepper spray, handcuffs and other law enforcement–style gear that a convicted felon is legally barred from possessing.
- The 73-year-old was booked on misdemeanor counts including impersonating a peace officer and unlawful possession of electronic control devices, a baton and tear gas.
- The Hemet Police Department has urged anyone with information to contact Sergeant Chavez as the investigation continues.
