Convicted Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Granted 30-Day Parole Before Delhi Elections

This marks his 12th temporary release since 2017 and the first time he has been allowed to visit his Sirsa ashram during parole.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, serving a 20-year sentence for rape and murder convictions, was granted a 30-day parole and released from Sunaria jail in Rohtak, Haryana.
This is his 12th parole or furlough since 2017, with many coinciding with elections, including the upcoming Delhi assembly polls on February 5, 2025.
For the first 10 days of this parole, he will stay at the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Sirsa, Haryana, marking his first visit there since his conviction in 2017, before moving to the sect’s Baghpat ashram in Uttar Pradesh.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has criticized the government for repeatedly granting parole to Ram Rahim, alleging political motives, while other prisoners remain incarcerated despite completing their sentences.
Ram Rahim’s lawyer and Haryana officials maintain that his parole is a legal entitlement and deny any political connections to the timing of his releases.
