Controversy Grows Over Mr Doodle’s Proposed Dungeness Home

The planned seaside house with laser-cut doodle designs faces criticism over environmental and cultural concerns ahead of a council decision.

Artist Sam Cox, known as Mr Doodle, has submitted plans for a three-bedroom home in Dungeness, Kent, featuring a rusted metal facade laser-cut with his signature designs.
The proposal includes restoring two historic railway carriages currently part of the existing structure and incorporating them into the new design.
Critics, including Lydd Town Council, argue the design is out of sync with the area’s historical and environmental character, raising concerns about wildlife safety and increased traffic from visitors.
Architect Guy Hollaway defends the design as subtle and respectful of the unique Dungeness landscape, citing similar successful projects in the area.
The Folkestone and Hythe District Council planning committee is set to decide on the application on January 7, with a recommendation for approval already in place.
