Controversy Erupts Over DMK MP's 'Gaumutra' Remark

BJP leaders condemn the statement, calling it a 'disrespect' of the 'Sanatani' tradition.

  • DMK MP DNV Senthilkumar S sparked controversy by referring to the Hindi heartland states as 'Gaumutra' states, in reference to BJP's recent victories in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.
  • Union Minister and BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi criticized the remark as a 'disrespect' of the 'Sanatani' tradition, warning that such comments will not be tolerated by the Indian populace.
  • Other BJP leaders also condemned the statement, with Bihar BJP leader Nawal Kishore Yadav suggesting that those who insult Hindi-speaking states need 'mental treatment'.
  • This is not the first time a DMK leader has made controversial remarks. In September, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's son Udhayanidhi compared the 'Sanatana Dharma' to diseases like dengue and malaria, stating it should be 'eradicated'.
  • An FIR was registered against Udhayanidhi under Section 153A (promoting enmity between different religious groups), and 295A (deliberate and malicious acts to outrage religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code.
