Overview

  • A fuel tanker overturned at El Vigilante in Tlalnepantla, spilling around 64,000 liters of gasoline and prompting the indefinite closure of the southbound highway.
  • Authorities from Pemex and Protección Civil began a controlled burn around 21:30 on July 13 to consume about 10,000 liters of leaked fuel.
  • Crews used foam retardant and heavy-duty cranes to lift the overturned tanker and clean up residual fuel, allowing northbound lanes to reopen early on July 14.
  • Approximately 50 homes in Colonia Constitución de 1917 were evacuated to protect residents from combustion gases and will be cleared to return after safety inspections.
  • Southbound motorists are being rerouted via Avenida Centenario and Vía Morelos after earlier traffic delays of up to two hours were reported.
