Overview

  • South Elgin police arrested 43-year-old Brandon J. Mumme around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clinton Elementary after reports he brandished a pocket-size knife at two juveniles.
  • The juveniles, riding electric scooters, say they returned to photograph Mumme’s license plate following an initial parking-lot dispute that began when his car cut them off.
  • Authorities report Mumme, who is employed by a contracted evening cleaning service rather than School District U-46, admitted to pulling the knife and advancing toward the youths.
  • The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony charges of aggravated assault on public property and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against Mumme.
  • After being processed and released with a court date, Mumme was served a trespass notice banning him from all School District U-46 properties.
