Overview

  • A ceremonial rammschlag by Lower Saxony’s Ministerpräsident Olaf Lies and Environment Minister Christian Meyer officially kicked off the €70 million project
  • Niedersachsen Ports has contracted a consortium from Emden and Hamburg to carry out quay building, dredging, old infrastructure removal and deliver the berth by the end of 2027
  • The new berth spans roughly 337 metres and can accommodate vessels up to 265 metres long, 36.5 metres wide and with a 10.7 metre draft
  • It will add around 23,200 m² of terminal space at Germany’s second-largest car transshipment port to sustain regional automotive throughput
  • The structure is tailored to maintain handling of large car carriers during planned closures of the Emssperrwerk under the Ems tidal control scheme
