Construction Begins on Zapotlán Industrial Pole, Largest in Plan México

Officials say DEWA will urbanize 922 hectares with more than 10 billion pesos to build staged, sustainable infrastructure that aims to create jobs and local services.

Overview

  • The formal start of construction, which took place Thursday, October 29, 2026, was led by Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard on behalf of President Claudia Sheinbaum and Hidalgo Governor Julio Menchaca.
  • The development will cover 922 hectares, making it the biggest of the 15 Polos de Desarrollo para el Bienestar in Plan México.
  • DEWA will provide private financing exceeding 10 billion pesos and will develop the site in five stages with a first-phase target of about 5,000 permanent jobs.
  • Planned features include on-site renewable energy, systems for water reuse and community services such as health centers, childcare, a public library and sports facilities.
  • Federal and state officials present the project as a tool to attract higher-value industry to Hidalgo because of local technical talent, though independent construction schedules and environmental or social impact assessments have not yet been published.
