Construction Begins on Inauguration Stage at Capitol

The new platform symbolizes a renewed commitment to the peaceful transfer of power after the Jan. 6 attack.

Congressional leaders from both parties participated in a ceremony to mark the start of construction for the 2025 presidential inauguration stage.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar emphasized the stage's role in celebrating democracy and the peaceful transfer of power.
The previous inauguration stage was part of the violent Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, where rioters used materials from the platform to assault law enforcement.
Heightened security measures are in place around the construction site, including two sets of fencing and a National Special Security Event designation for Jan. 6, 2025.
The completed platform will accommodate nearly 1,600 guests, including the president-elect, vice president-elect, past presidents, and foreign dignitaries.
