Overview
- Mexico City placed the first stone and began foundation work for the San Francisco Tlaltenco complex on a site of roughly 22,000–23,000 square meters with seven construction firms involved.
- The project is part of the city’s 100 Utopías program and is described as the first of six such centers planned for Tláhuac.
- Facilities will include a semi‑Olympic pool, sports courts, a 400‑seat auditorium, a cartonería school, childcare and day center services, rehabilitation areas, a subsidized community dining hall, medical consults with mammography and a clinical lab, an addictions support space called Colibrí, and the Casa de las Emociones for mental health.
- Complementary works highlighted by city leaders include a recently released tender for Cablebús Line 5 to link Tláhuac with Milpa Alta and the start of three football fields near the Tláhuac CETRAM, along with perimeter street and lighting improvements and a planned Carnival Route corridor.
- The government cited an investment of 180 million pesos and framed the initiative as an effort to reduce long‑standing inequalities and strengthen local identity in Tláhuac.
