Construction Begins on $10 Billion, 1.5 MTPA Green Ammonia Hub in Kakinada

The brownfield conversion pairs multi‑gigawatt renewables with storage to supply contracted green ammonia exports.

Overview

  • Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan led the bhumi puja and first major equipment installation on January 17, marking the start of visible construction.
  • The AM Green complex targets phased output of 0.5 MTPA by 2027, 1.0 MTPA by 2028, and full 1.5 MTPA by 2030 under a total investment of about USD 10 billion.
  • The integrated system includes 7.5 GW of solar and wind, around 1,950 MW of electrolyser capacity, and pumped‑hydro storage anchored at Pinnapuram to deliver round‑the‑clock power.
  • The project repurposes Nagarjuna Fertilizers’ grey ammonia site near Kakinada Port and is expected to create up to 8,000 construction jobs, with thousands more in operations and allied sectors.
  • AM Green has a long‑term supply deal with Germany’s Uniper for 125 KTPA starting in 2028 and is engaging buyers in Japan and Singapore, while also planning a 2‑GW electrolyser manufacturing unit in Kakinada.
