- Constitution Hill, which was due to contest Newbury’s Group 3 John Porter Stakes on Saturday, was pulled after Wednesday’s course walk found the going too quick.
- Nicky Henderson said the big, heavy horse could not be risked on fast turf and stressed he remains in excellent form.
- Clerk of the course George Hill said the track was watered 8 to 12 millimetres to be good for Friday with a plan to let it dry for Saturday.
- Henderson explained that “good” on the Flat rides quicker than “good” for jump racing, so the surface did not meet their threshold.
- The entry had lifted interest and cut odds from about 10-1 to 4-1 earlier in the week, and connections will now look for a race on safer ground before a summer break.
