Overview

  • Schreiber presented his final 20:00 Tagesschau broadcast on May 25 after joining ARD-aktuell in 2017 and becoming part of the main anchor team in 2021.
  • He closed the show with personal thanks, wishing viewers “many positive news and faith in the good,” and cited the Chinese proverb “Wherever you go, go with your heart.”
  • Although his on-air farewell was understated, Tagesschau colleagues greeted him with a standing ovation in the newsroom, as shown in a video he shared online.
  • Schreiber said he is leaving to return to more in-depth journalism and to leverage his expertise as a Middle East correspondent.
  • He will spend the summer on hiatus and then begin reporting from Tel Aviv, New York for Axel Springer’s Global Reporters Network on September 1.
