Overview
- Decision desks projected a Conservative majority late Saturday and Lorne Doerkson is set to be sworn in as premier after leading the party to victory in the snap election called by David Eby.
- Outgoing premier David Eby conceded the race, called Doerkson to offer his congratulations, and has offered his resignation as leader of the B.C. NDP.
- Doerkson became interim leader on Sept. 20, quickly reunited many lawmakers who had left the party, and ran a campaign that consistently led in polls during the five-week campaign.
- The Conservatives campaigned on lowering taxes by raising the basic personal exemption, shrinking the deficit through growth, repealing the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and ending SOGI school guidance.
- Official results remain subject to Elections BC manual counts and verification of mail-in and absentee ballots, and the party must resolve internal constitutional rules before making Doerkson its permanent leader.
