Connor Hellebuyck Could Join Devils On Road Trip After First Practice

Medical staff checks and a three-game, four-night road trip will shape when the Devils use their newly acquired veteran goaltender.

Overview

Hellebuyck skated in his first practice with the New Jersey Devils on Monday and teammates and coaches said he looked sharp.
Hellebuyck told reporters he feels ready to play and wants to return to game action as soon as possible.
Coach Sheldon Keefe said the team will assess Hellebuyck after practice and again on the flight before deciding whether to play him on the upcoming trip.
One outlet reported that Hellebuyck will start Tuesday in Dallas while other coverage and team comments say the decision remains conditional on medical and in-flight evaluations.
Hellebuyck has not played since April 13, 2025 after a team-imposed suspension with Winnipeg, and his arrival resolves a months-long standoff that could alter New Jersey’s goaltending rotation and short-term playoff outlook.
