Connecticut Woman Accused of Holding Stepson Captive for 20 Years Released on Bail

The 32-year-old man escaped by setting a fire, revealing years of alleged abuse and confinement since childhood.

Kimberly S., 56, was released on a $300,000 bail after being charged with kidnapping and abuse of her stepson in Waterbury, Connecticut.
The man, now 32, claimed he had been held in a small, unheated room since he was 11 years old, with confinement reportedly starting as early as age 3.
Authorities found the man severely malnourished, weighing only 31 kilograms, with no medical care provided during his captivity.
He escaped in February by setting a fire in the house; upon rescue, he told authorities, 'I want my freedom.'
The accused denies the charges and plans to plead not guilty at her court hearing scheduled for March 26.
