Connecticut Restaurateur Gina Luari Arrested on Felony Larceny, Bad-Check Charges

A vendor’s complaint over two checks drawn on closed accounts prompted the charges.

Overview

  • East Hartford police arrested Luari on Sept. 17 on charges of second-degree larceny and issuing a bad check; she is free on $10,000 bail and due in court Oct. 22.
  • The arrest warrant says Restaurant Equipment Paradise reported two checks for about $2,620 and $8,201 that were returned because the bank accounts were closed.
  • The vendor’s manager told police this was roughly the fifth such occurrence and sought charges after more than two months without repayment.
  • Luari told an officer she intended to repay, said she did not realize the account was closed, cited a pending credit from Blue Back Square, and said lawyers were involved, while the vendor disputed any link to Blue Back Square.
  • Her businesses operate multiple The Place 2 Be locations in West Hartford, Hartford and New Haven and have recently faced a health-code closure, missing sales-tax licenses, and a 2024 eviction from the Basketball Hall of Fame site.
