Overview

  • The attempted rescue began when Owens’s dog became trapped inside a Rockwell Park bathroom that automatically locked at 10 p.m.
  • Owens climbed into the pavilion’s chimney flue to reach his pet, became lodged and prompted firefighters to dismantle parts of the chimney.
  • Firefighters’ work caused an estimated $5,000 to $10,000 in damage to Mrs Rockwell’s Pavilion.
  • Owens, 35, was arrested on burglary, trespassing and criminal mischief charges, released on bond and scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on July 7.
  • Parks officials said the doors can be opened from inside after locking and that contacting police would have averted the incident; the dog emerged unharmed.
