Connecticut Firefighter Killed in UTV Accident During Brush Fire Battle

Robert Sharkevich, a veteran firefighter, died after a utility vehicle rollover while fighting a large blaze on Lamentation Mountain.

Robert Sharkevich, 66, was a retired Hartford firefighter and active volunteer in Wethersfield, Connecticut.
The accident occurred on a steep, rocky incline, injuring three other firefighters with minor injuries.
Governor Ned Lamont ordered flags to be flown at half-staff to honor Sharkevich's service to the community.
The brush fire, which began Monday, has spread over 125 acres and continues to be fought by local and state firefighters.
Helicopters from Maine and the Connecticut National Guard are aiding firefighting efforts due to challenging terrain and dry conditions.
