Overview
- CONMEBOL published the semifinal calendar on Monday, fixing Boca vs. Vasco for the first leg on Oct. 13 at La Bombonera and the return on Oct. 20 in Brazil with kickoff times at 21:30.
- Vasco cannot host the return at São Januário because its capacity of about 20,000 does not meet CONMEBOL's 30,000-seat rule for semifinals.
- The club is evaluating Rio alternatives including the Maracanã and the Engenhão (Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos) and has said it may pursue legal remedies if it cannot secure a suitable stadium in the city.
- The other semifinal pair is Atlético Mineiro vs. Montevideo City Torque with the first leg on Oct. 14 in Belo Horizonte and the return in Uruguay, and the Sudamericana final is scheduled for Nov. 21 in Barranquilla.
- If the return is moved from São Januário the change will affect ticketing, travel and match preparations for players and fans and could force negotiations between clubs, stadium operators and local authorities over access to larger Rio venues.
