The mission will probe methane seeps, focusing on chemosynthetic life via the Falkor (too) using a high-definition ROV.

Overview

  • Field operations are scheduled for December 14, 2025 through January 10, 2026, concluding in Puerto Madryn.

  • Plans call for at least 15 dives with the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s remotely operated vehicle to capture unprecedented imagery and measurements.
  • The voyage will explore the Malvinas and Salado basins and an unexplored sector of the Colorado–Rawson basins where deep-life systems are suspected.
  • The public will be able to watch live streams of sample collection and onboard analyses, with official links shared by CONICET, the Schmidt Ocean Institute and UBA.
