Overview

  • Supreme Court judge Leopoldo Puente ordered the Congress of Deputies to provide a month-by-month breakdown of all payments to José Luis Ábalos from 2014 through 2024.
  • The Congress reported paying Ábalos €751,421.56 in total, comprising €468,170.60 in work remuneration and €283,250.96 in non-taxed allowances.
  • Fernando Galindo, the secretary general of the Congress, confirmed that MPs’ salaries and allowances are disbursed without requiring proof of bank-account ownership, so account titularity remains unverified.
  • A recent Guardia Civil report highlighted that only €79,841.74 appeared in Ábalos’s bank accounts compared with the €751,421.57 declared to the Tax Agency.
  • Agencia Tributaria records show Ábalos made €44,729 in donations to the PSOE between 2014 and 2024, but bank data only substantiate €8,471 of those payments.
