Overview

• Around 500 AAP office-bearers and workers joined the Congress at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan in Ahmedabad on August 17.
• The defectors include state secretary Suryasinh Dabhi, Ahmedabad city president Omprakash Tiwari and former assembly candidate Kantiji Thakor.
• Senior Congress leaders including Mukul Wasnik, Amit Chavda and Tushar Chaudhary welcomed the returnees and assured them their honour would be preserved.
• The entrants said they were disillusioned with AAP’s role in splitting anti-Congress votes and indirectly aiding the BJP.
• AAP Gujarat president Isudan Gadhvi dismissed the exodus as insecurity among a few and pointed to over 5,000 fresh recruits at party jansabhas.
