Concord Officer Fires Weapon During Foot Chase After Traffic Stop

A 37-year-old Richmond man was apprehended with a firearm, but authorities have yet to explain what led to the officer discharging their weapon.

The incident began with a traffic stop at 10:11 p.m. Thursday near Clayton Road and Ellis Street in Concord.
The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot, prompting a police pursuit.
During the chase, a Concord officer discharged their firearm, though no one was struck by the gunfire.
The suspect was eventually captured near Sutter Street and Clayton Road with assistance from a helicopter and K-9 unit.
Authorities confirmed the suspect was found in possession of a firearm but have not disclosed what escalated the situation into a shooting or whether the suspect used the weapon.
