Concanaco Projects 53,000 Million Pesos From Día de Muertos Spending

The estimate points to a concentrated nine‑day boost for markets and tourist towns while questions remain over who actually benefits from the flow of money.

Overview

  • Concanaco‑Servytur released its forecast on Monday, Oct. 19, estimating about 53,000 million pesos in economic activity for Oct. 25–Nov. 2, 2026, a roughly 7 percent rise from 2025.
  • The confederation says sales of cempasúchil, pan de muerto, veladoras, sweets, costumes and ofrenda items plus travel, hotels and restaurants will drive the increase.
  • The Secretaría de Educación Pública has scheduled a four‑day school 'megapuente' from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 that could add to family travel and local demand, with classes set to resume Nov. 3.
  • Labor authorities including PROFEDET and STPS emphasize that Nov. 1–2 are not mandatory paid holidays under the Ley Federal del Trabajo, so most workers who work those days receive ordinary pay unless contracts or collective agreements state otherwise.
  • Concanaco did not provide state or municipal breakdowns and its figure measures estimated economic flow rather than firm profits, so actual gains for producers and small businesses will depend on costs, local prices and whether consumers buy from formal local suppliers.
