Commodore 64 Ultimate Preorders Launch for Three FPGA-Powered Editions

Overview

  • Christian “Peri Fractic” Simpson acquired Commodore branding and essential IP to relaunch the company, though final deal terms remain pending.
  • The live crowdfunding campaign offers early-backer pricing starting at $300 with a limited-time $50 savings on the standard model.
  • The device uses an AMD Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA to replicate the original motherboard with near-perfect accuracy and supports cartridges, datasettes, disk drives, HDMI output, Wi-Fi and USB connectivity.
  • Backers can choose from three editions: $300 Basic Beige, a $350 Starlight Edition with internal RGB lighting, and a $500 Founders Edition limited to 6,400 units with original creators’ signatures etched into the board.
  • Original C64 designer Al Charpentier is advising development and the company plans to ship the new systems in October–November 2025.
