Overview
- A national pact between the Federación Argentina de Empleados de Comercio y Servicios (FAECYS) and employer groups (CAC, CAME, UDECA) moved the Día del Empleado de Comercio to Monday 28 September for 2026.
- Salta’s Subsecretaría de Trabajo reviewed the local agreement submitted by the Sindicato de Empleados de Comercio and confirmed that workers under Convenio Colectivo de Trabajo 130/75 need not attend work on the transferred day.
- The transfer covers many retail categories and named chains in jurisdictions that adopted it, including supermarkets, shopping centers, wholesalers and appliance stores listed in Salta’s filing.
- Employees who do work on the transferred holiday are entitled to holiday pay surcharges and the protections that apply to a public holiday while owner-operated shops may remain open under existing rules.
- The holiday is grounded in national law — Law 26.541 fixed 26 September as the Día del Empleado de Comercio and the date commemorates the 1934 labour reforms of Law 11.729 — and provincial rules can still lead some localities to observe the day on alternate dates.
