Commerce Employees’ Day in Argentina Shifted to Monday, September 29

A sectoral pact preserves full holiday protections, with final approval by the Labor Secretariat still pending.

Overview

  • FAECYS and the main employer chambers (CAC, CAME, UDECA) signed an agreement on August 27 in Buenos Aires to move the 2025 observance from Friday, September 26, to Monday, September 29.
  • The day retains the legal effects of a holiday: employees may decline to work with normal pay or work voluntarily with a 100% wage surcharge under the LCT, without compensatory rest.
  • Shops are not legally required to close, but they may open only with owners or employees who choose to work under the holiday pay regime.
  • Large retailers, shopping centers, supermarkets, hypermarkets, wholesalers and clothing chains are expected to close, according to union communications reported by local media.
  • The parties submitted the pact to the Secretaría de Trabajo for homologation and publication in the Boletín Oficial, and the shift aims to create a long weekend and lessen Friday trade disruptions.
