- Commerce confirmed Monday that Chris Fall has resigned as director of the Center for AI Standards and Innovation after about three months in the job.
- National Institute of Standards and Technology Director Arvind Raman will serve as acting CAISI director and is leading a search for a permanent successor.
- Fall was appointed in April to run the office created from the rebranded U.S. AI Safety Institute and has prior senior science roles at the Department of Energy, OSTP and the Office of Naval Research.
- CAISI is the Commerce unit that conducts technical testing of advanced commercial models and recently played a central role in the Commerce Department’s brief export-control action on Anthropic’s models.
