Commanders' Austin Ekeler Faces Memory Loss After Second Concussion This Season

The running back is on injured reserve following a severe head injury sustained during a Week 12 game against the Cowboys.

Austin Ekeler, Washington Commanders running back, revealed he experienced memory loss and brain fog after his second concussion this season, sustained on November 24 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Ekeler, 29, described not recalling events immediately after the hit, including how he got off the field, until regaining awareness during medical evaluations and an ambulance ride to the hospital.
This is Ekeler's second concussion of the 2024 season, following a similar injury in Week 3, and his fourth documented concussion in his NFL career.
The Commanders placed Ekeler on injured reserve on November 30, sidelining him for at least four games, with his earliest possible return being Week 18 against the Cowboys.
Head coach Dan Quinn emphasized the team's commitment to following rigorous concussion protocols, while Ekeler expressed uncertainty about returning this season as he evaluates long-term health risks.
