Comic-Con Makes Global Debut in Málaga With Packed Launch and 2027 Commitment

A continuity agreement through 2027 was sealed as opening-day crowds tested queues, pricing and logistics.

Overview

  • San Diego Comic-Con’s first official edition outside the U.S. opened at Málaga’s FYCMA and 22,000 m² Village, with a 3,000-seat Hall M echoing San Diego’s Hall H.
  • Organizers forecast between 100,000 and 120,000 attendees across four days, with Thursday’s turnout filling spaces and generating long waits for entry, panels, merchandise and services.
  • Paid photos and autographs drew criticism from fans, with prices around €90 for a photo and about €66 for a signature, while many comics signings remained free and fees were set by the talent.
  • The guest slate features Arnold Schwarzenegger as the event’s padrino on Sunday and a late addition of Jared Leto on Friday for Tron: Ares, alongside Aaron Paul, Luke Evans, Gwendoline Christie, Dafne Keen and Taz Skylar.
  • Local authorities reported hotel occupancy near 90% and added a special EMT shuttle, as Comic-Con’s David Glanzer confirmed Málaga’s multi-year run and said the event “has found a home” in the city.
