ComfortDelGro Pauses Punggol Self-Driving Fleet After Test Crash as LTA Vows Public Report

Authorities plan to release the investigation results to reinforce public confidence in safety oversight of the trials.

Overview

  • A ComfortDelGro autonomous vehicle struck a road divider at about 3:10pm on Jan 17 at Edgedale Plains during routine mapping after detecting a small object and a safety operator’s manual takeover.
  • There were no passengers on board and no injuries were reported.
  • ComfortDelGro has called a safety timeout for its autonomous vehicles and is working with the Land Transport Authority on a thorough review.
  • Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling said Grab’s separately operated, by‑invitation shuttle on Route 1 will continue testing, noting it uses different vehicles and software.
  • The LTA previously targeted the first public autonomous shuttle services in Punggol by the second quarter of 2026, and ComfortDelGro has signalled plans for five five‑seater shuttles offered through its CDG Zig app.
