The show recently won an Emmy for 'Outstanding Talk Series', but the unresolved host issue took center stage during the ceremony.
Longtime correspondent Roy Wood Jr., who left the show in October, expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation by mouthing 'Please hire a host' during the Emmy's acceptance speech.
Reports suggest that the show will be led by its correspondents in the coming months, rather than celebrity guest hosts, hinting that the permanent host could already be on staff.
Contracts for several correspondents, including Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic and Jordan Klepper, are currently under negotiation.
