Overview

  • On June 24, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station booked Lee Kyung-kyu on suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription medication after a June 8 incident in southern Seoul.
  • Preliminary roadside testing and a National Forensic Service laboratory analysis both confirmed his system contained medication prescribed for his panic disorder.
  • Lee apologized for his negligence and urged others taking similar medication to avoid driving if their treatment could impair their abilities.
  • Lee, who has treated panic disorder for nearly ten years, said he drove to a hospital when his symptoms worsened and mistakenly drove another driver’s identical car after a valet mix-up.
  • Investigators will determine whether to press charges under Article 45 of the Road Traffic Act, which bans driving when drugs, including legally prescribed ones, impair cognitive or motor functions.
