Combing Operations Launched to Trap Tigers After Two Farmer Deaths Near Bandipur

Officials have deployed additional teams with camera traps across Saragur hotspots.

Overview

  • Forest department squads, including the Special Tiger Force and two camp elephants, are sweeping zones near Kurnigala and Bennegere following back-to-back attacks.
  • Fifty camera traps have been installed at both sites, with more than 50 extra staff on deputation from November 1 to 15 to patrol Nugu, Hediyala, Moliyuru and nearby villages.
  • Farmer Doddaningaiah from Kudagi was killed on October 31 while grazing cattle near the Muliyuru range, marking the third recent tiger incident in the taluk.
  • Another farmer, Rajashekar, died on October 26 near Nugu Wildlife Sanctuary, while a separate victim from Badagalpura remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
  • Earlier measures included an emergency meeting, a new state-level task force and a one-trip cut to safaris at Bandipur and Nagarahole, steps that local residents and experts criticize as inadequate.
