Overview
- Column disclosed on September 16 that it has embedded USDC and USDT support directly into its core bank ledger so stablecoins become native account balances rather than external custodial holdings.
- The new rails connect on‑chain settlements on Solana (the default), Ethereum and other networks to U.S. payment systems such as FedNow, Fedwire, ACH, RTP and SWIFT, allowing instant conversion between stablecoins and fiat without prefunding.
- Column built an in‑house issuer processor so clients can issue debit, credit, prepaid and stablecoin‑backed cards on Visa and Mastercard networks through a single bank integration.
- The bank says the stack is already processing 'tens of billions' in annualized stablecoin volume for customers including Brex, Ramp and Mercury, though independent public verification of those totals is not yet available.
- By combining deposit holding, processing and global multicurrency accounts, Column aims to compete with card processors like Marqeta and network plays such as Mastercard's BVNK and could cut integration steps and settlement costs for fintechs moving money across borders.
