Overview

  • Columbia has formally incorporated the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism into its anti-discrimination policy, broadening the scope of prohibited speech to include certain critiques of Israel.
  • The university has appointed dedicated Title VI and Title VII coordinators to oversee compliance with civil-rights laws and report on discrimination and harassment cases.
  • New, mandatory antisemitism training for faculty, staff and students will be rolled out in partnership with national Jewish organizations to address campus safety concerns.
  • Officials affirmed a zero-tolerance stance on antisemitism and announced they will no longer negotiate with Columbia University Apartheid Divest following disruptions to academic activities.
  • Two people familiar with the negotiations say a funding deal with the Trump administration could close this week and may include a significant fine along with further mandated reforms.
