Colts Sign Tackle Bayron Matos to Practice Squad, Release Marcellus Johnson

The former Dominican basketball player joins as a developmental prospect after time with Miami.

Overview

  • Indianapolis announced the move Tuesday, confirming Bayron Matos to the practice squad and the release of tackle Marcellus Johnson.
  • Matos, 6-foot-7 and 334 pounds, spent 2024 on the Dolphins’ practice squad as an International Player Pathway participant and took part in Miami’s 2025 offseason and training camp.
  • He recently worked out for the Steelers and Patriots after going undrafted in 2024 and has yet to appear in an NFL regular-season game.
  • The Colts do not currently have an IPP-designated player, and Matos could occupy that exempt spot, which would not count against the practice-squad limit but would make him ineligible to play on Sundays.
  • A former New Mexico and South Florida basketball player who walked on to USF football, Matos recorded a reported 4.88-second 40-yard dash at his Pro Day.
