Colts Rule Out Alec Pierce for Week 5 After Concussion Setback

Post-practice symptoms prevented the independent clearance required by the NFL concussion protocol.

Overview

  • Pierce practiced fully Wednesday and Thursday but reported issues afterward, did not participate Friday, and was ruled out for Sunday against the Raiders, head coach Shane Steichen said.
  • It is his third documented concussion in four NFL seasons, and this time he will miss at least two games after previously missing one game in each prior instance.
  • With their primary deep threat unavailable, Steichen remained noncommittal on Adonai Mitchell’s snaps, leaving Ashton Dulin as the likely outside option opposite Michael Pittman Jr.
  • Indianapolis also ruled out CB Kenny Moore II (Achilles), RB Tyler Goodson (groin) and S Daniel Scott (knee), with practice-squad veteran Mike Hilton expected to handle nickel duties as cornerback depth thins.
  • Local reporting tied Pierce’s Week 4 absence to a subdued passing performance in the loss to the Rams, highlighting the effect on Daniel Jones and the vertical attack.
