Colts' Anthony Richardson Charged With Misdemeanor Marijuana Possession

Hamilton County prosecutors filed the count after a Carmel traffic stop produced marijuana and THC gummies with a bench trial set for Jan. 4, 2027.

Overview

  • Police stopped Richardson on Oct. 12 for an expired registration that did not match the vehicle and said they smelled marijuana when they approached the car.
  • Officers searched the vehicle, found a small mason jar of suspected marijuana and an opened bag of THC-infused gummies, and briefly handcuffed Richardson while collecting evidence.
  • Court filings say the seized items later tested positive for THC and the Hamilton County prosecutor formally filed a Class B misdemeanor possession charge on Oct. 19.
  • Richardson waived an initial hearing and is scheduled for a bench trial on Jan. 4, 2027, while the Colts have said they are gathering information and declined further comment.
  • Because Indiana treats marijuana possession as a criminal offense, the case could produce legal penalties and separate team or NFL discipline that may affect Richardson’s roster role and contract prospects.
