Colorado Voters Reject Election Reform and Big Cat Hunting Ban

Proposition 131 to implement ranked choice voting and Proposition 127 to ban big cat hunting both fail according to early results.

  • Proposition 131, which aimed to introduce a top-four primary and ranked choice voting for certain elections, was rejected by 56% of Colorado voters.
  • The initiative was supported by Kent Thiry and Nick Troiano of Unite America but faced opposition due to concerns over cost and influence by wealthy individuals.
  • Proposition 127, which sought to ban trophy hunting of mountain lions, bobcats, and lynx, was also defeated with 54% voting against it.
  • Opponents of the hunting ban argued it was not based on scientific principles and could lead to further restrictions on hunting.
  • Other ballot measures saw mixed results, with a firearms excise tax passing and a school choice amendment failing to reach the required approval threshold.
