Colorado Teen Found Safe After Amber Alert; Suspect Detained

Investigators used license-plate cameras to locate her in Thornton.

  • The Amber Alert was issued around 6 a.m. Tuesday after reports that 16-year-old Jasmin Alicia Zapata was forced into a pickup in Boulder on Monday evening.
  • Boulder police say Zapata is safe at home and 19-year-old Juan Manuel Bretado-Lopez is in custody in connection with the case.
  • The suspect vehicle was a cream/white or grey 2007 Chevy Silverado with Colorado plate AXW-L52 and a lime green “Timpano” sticker, last seen near Thornton Parkway and Gale Boulevard at 8:57 p.m. Monday.
  • Thornton police assisted in the recovery after Flock license-plate reader technology helped lead officers to the location.
  • Authorities have not announced charges, are examining whether Zapata and the suspect had a prior relationship, and are seeking information on a second unidentified male.
