Colorado Teen Arrested for Attempting to Join ISIS

18-year-old Humzah Mashkoor from Westminster, Colorado, was arrested at Denver International Airport on Monday, December 18, 2023, charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS.
Mashkoor was reportedly planning to travel to the United Arab Emirates and then continue on to either Afghanistan or Syria to serve as a fighter for ISIS.
The arrest marks a development in a two-year FBI investigation into Mashkoor, who first interacted with the FBI Denver Field Office on social media when he was 16 under the pseudonym 'Humzah Afghan'.
Mashkoor allegedly expressed support for ISIS online, including sharing execution videos and discussing his desire to work with extremist groups.
Mashkoor's initial travel plans for December 11 were postponed to December 18, the day of his arrest.
