Colorado Secures Final $12 Million in NEVI Funds to Add About 100 Fast-Charging Ports

The approval follows a court-ordered thaw of previously frozen federal dollars.

Overview

  • Combined with state Community Access Enterprise funding, the new tranche will support roughly 100 additional DC fast‑charging ports at priority locations.
  • Colorado has already awarded about $25.6 million in NEVI funding for 246 fast‑charging plugs along major roadways.
  • New and existing stations are being sited along interstates, 19 of 26 scenic byways, near recreation areas, and in rural towns such as Craig, Cortez, Sterling and Limon.
  • Although supported by federal and state grants, the chargers are owned and operated by private companies to expand corridor coverage for a growing fleet exceeding 200,000 EVs, supported by about 5,000 Level 2 and 1,400 fast ports.
  • With federal and state purchase credits shrinking, the Vehicle Exchange Colorado rebate increases to $9,000 on Nov. 3 to help sustain adoption.
