His condition developed from Influenza type A to pneumonia and sepsis, resulting in cardiac arrest and lung failure.
Matlock is currently in a Copenhagen hospital, where he is on a ventilator and has suffered brain damage.
His family has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise over $150,000 needed for a medical evacuation flight back to the U.S.
As of now, the family has raised over $47,000, but insurance will only cover a small portion of the evacuation costs.
