Colorado Man Identified After Vehicle Goes Over Grand Canyon Rim

Authorities have not explained how the car went over the rim near a trailhead closed to private vehicles.

Overview

  • Park dispatch received reports around 12:40 p.m. on Sept. 7 that a vehicle had gone over the South Rim near the South Kaibab Trailhead.
  • Rangers located the victim about 300 feet below the rim, airlifted the body to the top, and transferred it to the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
  • The deceased was identified as Steven (Drew) Bradley, 27, of Federal Heights, Colorado, and he was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
  • The National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner are investigating, and officials have not released the cause or circumstances; the NPS included 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline information in its notice.
  • The South Kaibab Trailhead is accessible by shuttle, foot, or bicycle only, and reports note similar fatal rim-vehicle incidents in 2009, 2021, and February 2025.
