Colorado Man Attacked by Black Bear and Cubs Inside Home

A 74-year-old man suffered significant injuries when a bear and her cubs broke into his Lake City residence, prompting wildlife officials to euthanize the animals.

The incident occurred Thursday night when a black bear and her three cubs entered the home through a partially open sliding glass door.
The man attempted to fend off the bear with a kitchen chair but was charged and knocked into a wall, sustaining injuries to his head, neck, arms, abdomen, shoulder, and calf.
Emergency responders treated the man's injuries on-site, and he declined hospitalization.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife euthanized the bears, stating they were highly habituated and had become a threat due to their comfort around humans.
The attack marked the first bear attack in Colorado in 2024, with officials urging residents to secure food sources to prevent future conflicts.
